Big Easy Chenin Blanc 2019
The 2019 Big Easy Chenin Blanc has hints of citrus peel, notes of preserved lemon and lime and rounded out with riper guava, quince and white florals. A beautiful, summery wine. Crisp and fresh.
The Chenin Blanc grapes were harvested from individually-selected, low-yielding bush and trellised wines from the Perdeberg region nearby Paarl. The grapes were hand-harvested in the cool of early morning. On the sorting table, all excess stalks and inferior berries were carefully removed.
After the grapes had been sorted, the grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed. The wine was settled overnight and the sediment was racked off the next day. Post fermentation lees contact was maintained for two months with weekly stirring of the lees before racking and stabilisation prior to bottling. This wine is crafted in a fresh style without any oak component.
Still young with a shy nose, hints of citrus peel, notes of preserved lemon, lime and rounded out with riper guava, quince and pretty white florals. While super fresh, there is a hint of crushed almond to add weight to an entry with gentle acidity that follows to an all-round softer acidity kicking on to a medium long finish. A beautiful summery wine, excellent chilled and enjoyed with light delicate dishes.
